Limitations of Group Therapy

The person leading the therapy session must adhere to confidentiality laws, safeguarding patients' private medical information and diagnoses. However, unlike the leader, other members of the group are not legally obligated to maintain confidentiality, and they can freely share information from the sessions without facing legal repercussions. This situation can make it challenging to uphold the confidentiality of individual patients, especially in larger groups where the leader's control over shared information is limited.

In group therapy sessions, conflict is a normal and predictable occurrence. While some conflicts might not be readily apparent to the group members, it falls upon the therapist to highlight these hidden disagreements.
