Evaluating Models of Economic Organization

Imagine a city is planning a large, week-long festival. Two main proposals for its organization are being debated:

Proposal A: A central committee will be formed to meticulously plan every detail. This committee will decide which food vendors can participate, what they will sell, the exact schedule of every musical act, and the precise location of all services. The goal is to create a perfectly managed and predictable event through direct control.

Proposal B: The city will only set a few general rules (e.g., health and safety standards, designated zones for food and entertainment) and then allow any interested food vendor, performer, or service provider to participate. They would be free to decide what to offer, when, and at what price, responding to the demands of the festival-goers.

Evaluate which of these two proposals better reflects the principle that large-scale economic coordination can emerge successfully without a single, conscious director managing all the participants. Justify your choice by explaining the underlying economic reasoning.
