Example of a Secondary Reinforcer: Money

Money is a classic example of a secondary reinforcer because it lacks intrinsic value. Its reinforcing power comes from its ability to be exchanged for primary reinforcers, such as food and shelter, or other secondary reinforcers. The uselessness of money on a deserted island where it cannot be spent highlights that its value is learned and conditional, not innate.
