Example of Personality Change via Environmental Reinforcement
An illustration of Skinner's theory involves Greta, a young woman who is a risk-taker, enjoying activities like fast driving and extreme sports. After she marries and has children, her environment's system of rewards and punishments changes. Risky behaviors are no longer reinforced, and she ceases to engage in them. As a result, her behavior pattern shifts, and she begins to describe herself as a cautious person, demonstrating how personality can evolve in response to new life circumstances.
