Example of Rational Ignorance in Voting

A common example of rational ignorance occurs in politics. A citizen might choose not to invest significant time and effort into researching the detailed economic impacts of a proposed trade agreement. The cost of this research (time, effort) is high, while the marginal benefit is low, as their single vote is extremely unlikely to be the deciding factor in an election. Therefore, it is rational for them to remain relatively ignorant about the policy's nuances and instead rely on simpler cues, like a political party's stance, to make a decision.
