Rational Apathy

Rational apathy is a specific behavioral outcome of rational ignorance, where an individual chooses not to participate in an activity, most notably voting, because the personal costs of participation (such as time and effort) are deemed to be higher than the likely personal benefits. It is the decision to abstain from an action because the perceived impact of that action is infinitesimally small, making the effort irrational from a cost-benefit perspective.
