Example of Stimulus Discrimination: Moisha the Cancer Patient

A cancer patient named Moisha provides a human example of stimulus discrimination. She learned to associate feeling ill with visits to her oncologist, but not with visits to other types of doctors, such as for an annual physical. This shows she could distinguish between different medical settings and only produced the conditioned response of nausea in the specific context associated with chemotherapy.
