Example of the Matching Hypothesis
An example of the matching hypothesis is the common belief that an exceptionally attractive movie star is 'out of your league.' Rather than pursuing the most attractive person possible, individuals weigh a potential partner’s attractiveness against their own likelihood of success. To avoid rejection, a person tends to seek partners they believe are fairly matched to their own level of physical attractiveness and social desirability.
