Examples of Shaping in Animal Training
B.F. Skinner successfully used shaping to teach pigeons a variety of behaviors, ranging from simple actions like pecking a disk in a Skinner box to more complex and unusual ones, such as turning in circles, walking in figure eights, and even playing ping pong. This technique remains widely used by animal trainers today to teach animals complex tasks.
