Explaining Market Inefficiency

A single company is the sole provider of a unique, patented medication. The company sets the price far above the marginal cost of producing it. As a result, some patients who would be willing to pay more than the production cost cannot afford the medication. Explain in your own words why this situation represents an inefficient market outcome.
