Explaining the Shape of the Income Distribution Curve

A graph used to show income distribution plots the cumulative percentage of the population (ordered from lowest to highest income) on the horizontal axis and the cumulative percentage of total income on the vertical axis. Explain why the resulting curve is always bowed downwards, away from the 45-degree line that represents perfect equality. Your explanation should also clarify why the curve must start at the point (0,0) and end at the point (100,100).
