Jami's Section 27 supplication frames fana (annihilation of the self) and baqa (subsistence in God) as the way of the masters of Sufism (arbab-i tasawwuf) toward the witnessing (shuhud) of divine truth. Opening with the omnipresence of divine grace — the world drowned in God's light, God manifest even in all opposites — the poem turns to the seeker: Jami asks to be cleansed of his own existence and made dust on the path of poverty (faqr) and annihilation, then to be granted subsistence in the divine and seated upon the throne of purity. The concept isolates this dual movement — dying to selfhood in order to abide in God — as the culminating stage attained by the ranks of the leaders of truth, distinguishing genuine spiritual witnessing from mere self-directed striving.
