Figure 4.21 illustrates the inflationary consequences of an upward shift in the wage-setting (WS) curve, a form of cost-push supply shock. The diagram shows that this shift moves the supply-side equilibrium to a point with lower employment and higher unemployment. At the original employment level (N0N_0), a positive bargaining gap is created, which initiates inflationary pressure.
