Formation of Citrulline (in mitochondrial matrix)

In the urea cycle, carbamoyl phosphate and ornithine combine to form citrulline within the mitochondrial matrix. This reaction is catalyzed by the enzyme ornithine transcarbamylase. Once formed, citrulline is transported across the mitochondrial membrane into the cytosol.
