Graphing y1y \leq -1

To graph the inequality y1y \leq -1, apply the three-step graphing procedure: Step 1 — Graph the boundary line. Replace the \leq symbol with == to obtain the boundary line y=1y = -1. This is a horizontal line. Because the inequality uses \leq (non-strict), draw the boundary line as a solid line. Step 2 — Test a point. Choose (0,0)(0, 0) since it does not lie on the boundary line: 010 \leq -1 is false, so (0,0)(0, 0) is not a solution. Step 3 — Shade the correct side. Because the test point (0,0)(0, 0) is not a solution, shade the half-plane on the opposite side of the boundary line — the region below the solid line y=1y = -1.
