Grassroots Partnerships to Mitigate Institutional Complexity in UX Design

To mitigate institutional complexity, a senior UX designer in healthcare-electronics manufacturing suggests using grassroots efforts to build partnerships with respected, established staff. New designers can partner with domain experts who have more influence, leveraging their credibility to bring ideas forward in cultures that normally discount input from newcomers.

As the designer explained: 'What I do is usually I find somebody who can…help me out...Maybe they have more say in that area (of expertise) and then I just partner with them and they help me…bring my idea forward. Because I'm new. It seems like [the company] has a culture of "if…you haven't been here [long], you don't know what you're talking about."'
