Greenhaus and Beutell's Three Sources of Work-Family Conflict
According to Greenhaus and Beutell's 1985 model, work-family conflict stems from three distinct sources. The first is time-based conflict, where the time demands of one role impede the fulfillment of the other. The second is strain-based conflict, in which the stress and fatigue from one role spill over, affecting performance in the other. The third is behavior-based conflict, which occurs when the behaviors expected in one role are incompatible with those required in the other.
