Historical Precursors to Modern Intelligence Theories

The concept of a single, general factor of intelligence predates the development of modern psychology. Ancient philosophers, such as Aristotle, held a similar viewpoint, suggesting that a unified cognitive ability underlies various mental tasks, a view that is analogous to Charles Spearman's later 'g' factor theory.
