In Section 35 of the Kashf al-Mahjub, Hujwiri condemns the Hululiyya, a group who profess the doctrine of incarnation (hulul), the interpenetration or mixing of the human and the Divine (imtizaj), and the transmigration of souls (naskh al-arwah). He stresses that these heretics wrongly attribute their beliefs to respected figures — falsely tracing their doctrine to masters such as Husayn ibn Mansur al-Hallaj and the ascetic Abu Hulman al-Dimashqi — whereas the recognized books of the Sufi shaykhs describe those men very differently and count them among the people of the heart. For Hujwiri, to ascribe incarnation or the fusion of servant and Lord is misguidance (dalal), not genuine mystical realization; God alone knows the truth of such men.
