Human Development Index (HDI)

The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite statistic used to rank countries into four tiers of human development. It is calculated from data on life expectancy, education (mean and expected years of schooling), and per capita income (GNI per capita). The HDI was created to emphasize that people and their capabilities should be the ultimate criteria for assessing the development of a country, not economic growth alone.
