Impact of Workplace Changes on Employee Motivation

A manufacturing firm simultaneously implements two changes: 1) It upgrades its machinery, which makes the production tasks more physically demanding for its workers. 2) It replaces its direct supervisor monitoring system with an automated system that is known to be less effective at detecting when an individual worker is not exerting full effort. Analyze the combined effect of these two changes on the wage the firm must offer to effectively motivate its employees to work hard. In your answer, explain the reasoning behind the impact of each change separately before concluding on their joint effect.
