Influence of a Dissenter on Conformity
The presence of a single ally who dissents from the majority opinion can almost entirely eliminate the pressure to conform. In Asch's 1955 experiments, when at least one other person in the group provided the correct answer, participants' conformity rates fell to nearly zero.
