Inherent Stressfulness of Events
While cognitive appraisal is a subjective process, some events are inherently more stressful due to their objective threat to well-being, such as dangers to one's health or safety. These types of stressors tend to produce more uniform threat appraisals across individuals, leaving less room for personal interpretation. Nevertheless, even in these situations, cognitive appraisal still functions to either intensify or reduce the individual's ultimate stress reaction.
