It is important to use evidence-based interventions when providing support to youth impacted by disasters and mass violence. Experts have identified five essential intervention principles that should be incorporated into immediate and midterm trauma interventions. These principles include promoting a sense of safety, calming, self- and community efficacy, connectedness, and hope.

Interventions for youth affected by war/conflict

Any strategy implemented in a classroom setting to improve the health and well-being of students, often by reducing or preventing pathology and problem behaviors (e.g., depression, social anxiety, cigarette smoking, drug or alcohol use, bullying and aggression).

School-based intervention

Relapse refers to the return to substance abuse after a period of improvement or abstinence. It is a common aspect of the recovery process, with research indicating that approximately 40% to 60% of individuals experience a relapse.

Peer support is social emotional support that is mutually offered or provided by persons having a mental health condition to others sharing a similar mental health condition to bring about a desired social or personal change.
