Jami's Allegory of the Soul, Body, and Physician in Haft Awrang
In Section 42 of Salaman and Absal (within the Haft Awrang), Jami presents a philosophical allegory defining the relationship between the human soul (the heart, del), the physical body (tan), and the physician (tabib). Jami portrays the heart as the master craftsman and the body as its essential tool. For the heart to fulfill its dual purpose of helping creation and serving God, its physical instrument must remain in working order. Thus, a skilled and observant physician is necessary as a guardian to protect the body from afflictions, establishing physical health as a prerequisite for spiritual and ethical action.
