Jami's Concept of the Quranic Curse on Insincere Reciters

In Section 94 of Subhat al-Abrar (part of the Haft Awrang), Jami explains the spiritual meaning behind the prophetic tradition stating that many a reciter of the Quran is cursed by the Quran itself. He argues that reciting the Quran merely for a beautiful voice, monetary reward, or social status—without actual presence of the heart (hudur-i qalb)—is a form of hypocrisy. When a reciter is distracted by the melody or seeks companionship with worldly elites through recitation, they lose connection with the Divine Speaker, turning a sacred act into a spiritual veil.
