In Section 113 of the first book of Silsilat al-Dhahab (from Jami's Haft Awrang), Jami delivers a powerful critique of individuals and authority figures who exploit the Sharia (Islamic law) as a pretext to oppress, harass, and exploit fellow Muslims.

He denounces corrupt local officials—such as market overseers (mir-e bazar) and city police chiefs (shahnah)—who use religious law to legitimize their tyranny and perform false deeds in the guise of truth. Jami argues that such hypocrites are utterly devoid of the true spirit of Sharia. Instead of upholding justice, they diminish the dignity of the sacred law for personal material gain, effectively comparing their actions to replacing the divine law with the Mongol law code (Yassa of Genghis Khan) and using Islam as a shield for their infidelity (kufr).
