In Section 106 of the Subhat al-Abrar (within the Haft Awrang), Jami advocates for spiritual and physical seclusion (uzlat) as the preferred path when a dominant master (pir-e ghalib) or an earnest fellow seeker (yar-e taleb) cannot be found. Jami presents seclusion as 'the key to the treasure of witnessing' (ganj-e shohud) and 'the remedy for the pain of existence' (ranj-e wojud). Furthermore, he performs a mystical etymological analysis of the word 'uzlat' (عزلت), stating that its core letters stand for 'ilm' (knowledge, from 'ayn) and 'zuhd' (asceticism, from 'zay'). He warns that solitude without knowledge is mere error (zallat), and without asceticism is merely a spiritual ailment (illat).
