In Section 110 of Subhat al-Abrar (within the Haft Awrang), Jami defines the second class of those who seek seclusion (uzlat). While the first class seeks to escape the harms of society (which Jami notes involves a negative suspicion of people), this second class is spiritually superior because it is motivated by a desire to protect others from the potential evil of one's own ego (nafs). This level of seclusion is built upon suspicion of oneself (su' al-zann bi-nafs) rather than suspicion of others, which Jami argues is preferable since individuals know their own flaws best. In this state, the seeker assumes responsibility for their own spiritual defects and withdraws so they do not burden or harm creation.
