Multimodal Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (MTA) Study

- Intensive medication management treatment for ADHD
- Intensive behavioral treatment for ADHD
- Combination intensive behavioral and medication management treatment for ADHD
- Routine community care (control group)

ADHD treatments evaluated by the MTA

Participants were referred to the study by health care providers, the media, and the child’s teachers. They were selected through interviews with the parents and children to determine the root of the child’s symptoms

- Combination ADHD treatment is superior to behavioral treatment and community care. It is also always superior to community care
- Combination-treatment participants received lower medication doses than meds-only participants
