Causes of Diminishing Average Product of Labor in Agriculture

In agriculture, the diminishing average product of labor can be attributed to two primary factors. The first is applying more labor to a fixed amount of land, such as when a growing population increases the number of farmers on existing farms. The second cause arises when a population expands its farming operations onto new, less productive land, as the most fertile areas are typically cultivated first.
