Malthusian Assumption: Population Grows When Living Standards Rise

A foundational idea in Malthus's model is that population tends to grow whenever living standards improve beyond a basic subsistence level. According to this logic, if people become better off, for instance due to a technological improvement, they will have more children. This response continues as long as incomes are elevated, making population growth the key factor that counteracts temporary economic gains.
