Marriage's Effect on Happiness and Emotional Adaptation
While married individuals often report higher happiness than unmarried ones, longitudinal studies suggest the direct impact of marriage on life satisfaction is often temporary. Data shows a brief increase in happiness around the time of the wedding, which then tends to decline as individuals adapt and return to their baseline level of satisfaction. This indicates that while marriage is correlated with happiness, the event itself may not provide a lasting boost to an individual's happiness set point.
