Metaphors of Wine, Candle, and Beloved in Gulshan-i Raz

In Mahmud Shabestari's Gulshan-i Raz (The Rose Garden of Mystery), the metaphors of wine (sharab), candle (sham'), and the beloved (shahed) are central to illustrating spiritual truths. As explained in Section 56, wine symbolizes the spiritual intoxication and self-effacement attained through gnosis ('irfan). The candle represents the light of divine illumination within the seeker's heart. The beloved is the manifestation of the Divine presence in all forms, visible to those with spiritual insight.
