- Cut highlighted text and cluster them physically or digitally into a group → name the group
Note* can stick it on a post-it note and label participant number or data collection method


Quick Method: Group Segments→ Assign Codes

- Record all the codes and outline them to prevent repeated codes 
- Group all the data that have the same code 
- CAQDAS-- software assigns the codes into the group automatically 


Traditional Method: creating codes before grouping

    - Highlighted sections should be categorized to compare different themes
    - Codes can be created before or after the data group

1) Data Gathering 

- Must read everything to familiarize the data 
- Start involving teams in projects by having workshops 
- During workshops:
- Have research questions on the boards 
- Highlight what they believe to be important
- Give each member a transcript and get through them. Once finished, pass down the transcript and get a new one. The process should be repeated until everyone engages all the data.

- Explore similarities, differences, or contradictions between codes to find essential themes

- Ask team members to review the essential themes to reduce biases
