NO as potential antiviral agent against COVID-19

NO causes a reduction in the palmitoylation of the spike protein, which is the covalent attachment of fatty acids to cysteine. This affects the ability of the coronavirus to fuse with ACE-2 receptors.
NO also might cause a a reduction in RNA viral replication in its early stages of replication.
