Nuances of the Arrow Metaphor in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 36, Poem 12)

In Poem 12, Attar employs the classic Persian literary trope comparing the beloved's eyelashes (مژه) to arrows (تیر). However, he introduces a subtle distinction: while both resemble each other as weapons that pierce the heart, the eyelash possesses a 'different flavor' (مزهٔ دیگر). This poetic nuance highlights that the wounds of love, unlike physical wounds, bring a unique, bittersweet suffering to the lover.
