Jami presents old age as the cause of diminished poetic strength: bodily weakness obstructs thought and leaves the speaker without eloquence. Yet this apparent incapacity becomes a form of spiritual readiness. By invoking verses from Rumi about abandoning concern for rhyme in favor of the Beloved, Jami reframes poetic creation as dependent not on personal skill but on emptying the heart so that the divine Beloved may make it a place of manifestation. The section therefore serves both as an explanation for composing the book and as a Sufi statement about humility, self-effacement, and inspired speech.
