Original Linnaean Taxonomic Levels

Within the animal and plant kingdoms of Linnaean taxonomy, organisms were grouped into a hierarchy of increasingly specific sublevels based on visible similarities. The original names for these taxonomic levels, from most general to most specific, were kingdom, class, order, family, genus, and species.
