Ownership of Capital Goods in Family-based Production

A defining characteristic of the family-based production model is that the family unit holds private property rights over its own capital goods. This includes tools, equipment, and land used for production. Unlike in some other economic systems where capital is owned by firms or the state, in this model, ownership and production are contained within the household.
