Pareto's Dichotomy of Human Effort: Production vs. Appropriation

In his 1906 book, Manual of Political Economy, Vilfredo Pareto conceptualized two distinct applications of human effort. The first is directed toward producing or transforming economic goods. The second, in contrast, is focused on appropriating goods that have been produced by others. This distinction underpins his view of economics as a site of conflict over distribution.
