Percent Concentration in Mixture Applications

In mixture applications involving concentrated cleaning supplies, chemicals, or mixed drinks, the concentration is typically expressed as a percent. A given percent concentration indicates the portion of the total mixture that consists of the active ingredient. For example, a 20%20\% concentrated household cleanser means that 20%20\% of the total amount is the cleanser, while the remaining portion is water. To prepare 3535 ounces of a 20%20\% concentration, one mixes 77 ounces (which is 20%20\% of 3535) of the pure cleanser with 2828 ounces of water. When organizing this type of mixture problem, the standard table setup is modified by replacing the 'value' column with a 'percent' column.
