Positive Production Externality

A positive production externality occurs when the production process of a good or service confers a benefit on a third party not involved in the transaction. These external benefits are not reflected in the market price of the product. An example is a firm that conducts research and development, creating knowledge that spills over and benefits other firms in the industry without compensation.
