Prediction of reading comprehension - hypotheses

  • RQ1: “Do the contributions of word recognition/decoding and oral language skills to reading comprehension depend on the measure of comprehension that is used?”
  • RQ2: “Beyond word recognition/decoding and oral language, do other skills account for additional variance in reading comprehension as measured by different tests? Specifically, is the prediction of reading comprehension enhanced by taking into account reading speed, verbal working memory, serial naming speed, IQ, or attention?”
  • RQ3: “Do the relative contributions of various predictors of comprehension differ for readers with differing levels of reading skill?
