Prediction of reading comprehension: Relative contributions of word recognition, language proficiency, and other cognitive skills can depend on how comprehension is measured
Researchers studied the relationship between reading comprehension scores from 3 tests (Wechsler Individual Achievement Tests, Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test, and Gray Oral Reading Test) and reading, language, and other cognitive skills for 97 students in grades 1 to 10. They found that reading speed, verbal memory, and attention did not have large impacts on the prediction of reading comprehension scores.
