Procedure for Rounding Whole Numbers
To round a whole number to a given place value, follow four steps. Step 1: Locate the digit in the target place value and mark it; all digits to its left remain unchanged. Step 2: Look at the digit immediately to the right of the target place. Step 3: If that digit is or greater, increase the target-place digit by ; if it is less than , leave the target-place digit as it is. Step 4: Replace every digit to the right of the target place with zero. The result is the rounded value at the specified place.
