Case Study

Production Technology Decision Evaluation

A factory manager needs to choose a production method to manufacture 100 car tires. The manager is presented with two options, both of which achieve the same quality and output:

  • Method X: Requires 4 machine hours and 20kg of raw rubber.
  • Method Y: Requires 4 machine hours and 25kg of raw rubber.

The manager chooses Method Y, stating, "The price of raw rubber is expected to fall sharply next month, so using a bit more of it now is not a major concern compared to other operational factors."

Evaluate the manager's decision and justification from a cost-efficiency perspective. Is the decision sound? Explain your reasoning based on the input requirements provided.
