Prokaryotic Ribosomes
Prokaryotic ribosomes are structures located in the cytoplasm responsible for protein synthesis. They are constructed from proteins and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Prokaryotic ribosomes are referred to as S ribosomes due to their overall size of S. A complete S prokaryotic ribosome is composed of two subunits: a small S subunit (which is approximately half the size of the large subunit) and a large S subunit. Although bacterial and archaeal ribosomes are the same size, they consist of different proteins and rRNA molecules, with archaeal versions sharing more structural similarities with eukaryotic ribosomes than with bacterial ones.
