Psychological Dependence (Drug Craving) in Substance Use Disorders
An emotional or mental need for a drug, also known as drug craving, which is distinct from physical dependence. It often involves using a substance to alleviate psychological distress. The inclusion of drug craving as a key component of psychological dependence is a recent and important addition to the diagnostic criteria for substance use disorder in the DSM-5.
