It is important to understand how violent media leads to aggression to recognize electronic media violence as a threat. There are different psychological theories that help explain how threatening media violence is. There are also short and long-term effects of violent content. These are different from time displacement effects, where the role of mass media is to replace a variety of activities that a child might engage in and instead cause certain kinds of behaviors to arise.
